Message-ID: <18a.1ef985ba.2c8b8edd@aol.com> It's great to see our little organization rising to the opportunities new technology provides us. I hope to read and post to this list regularly. Lloyd has been reminding me about doing more President columns, and I've got one started which I expect to get in the next issue. It's about the way the labels "humanism" and "humanist" tend to be invisible within our society -- why, and what can be done about it. I hope you will find it interesting and valuable. Pete Wernick President Family of Humanists From tree@treebo.com Sun Sep 7 02:06:53 2003 From: tree@treebo.com (Forrest Carroll) Date: Sat, 6 Sep 2003 18:06:53 -0700 Subject: [foh-mail-list]about this list Message-ID: Hi all: This list is one of the benefits of the web hosting service that we are using to host the new Family of Humanists site. There are lots of options, which I will be playing with periodically, trying to achieve the right tools. Any suggestions as to how this should be set up are welcome. Right now the list has as settings: Default mode: Once a day digest. Users can change their mode to receive each message as it comes in. Approved messages: All messages are delivered to the list without admin approval. If things get out of hand, or we get someone who is over the top, we can force admin approval for that individual's email address, or convert the list so that all messages must be approved. Let's hope it doesn't get there. The headers, etc. are all default. The descriptions were basic, not fancy. If anyone feels a change of wording is in order, please feel free to let me know. Right now I am the list administrator. If there is anyone else who wants all or part of the job, they are welcome. I intend to put a link to list registration onto our website. Thoughts? -Forrest From devinc@sbcglobal.net Sun Sep 7 15:07:19 2003 From: devinc@sbcglobal.net (Devin & Claire Carroll) Date: Sun, 7 Sep 2003 07:07:19 -0700 Subject: [foh-mail-list]about this list References: Message-ID: <001c01c3754b$305e76c0$ca01a8c0@n7w2l7> Forrest- Is it possible to block emails with attachments? This would be comforting to some people who might otherwise not wish to be on the list. We have this problem with our professional association listserver, and so far we haven't figured out how to block the attachments. -Devin ----- Original Message ----- From: "Forrest Carroll" To: "FOH Mailing List" Sent: Saturday, September 06, 2003 6:06 PM Subject: [foh-mail-list]about this list > Hi all: > > This list is one of the benefits of the web hosting service that we > are using to host the new Family of Humanists site. It is possible to set a size limit on messages. There is also a setting dealing with plain text vs MIME. I'm not sure what the effect of that will be. I'll see what else I see. -Forrest >Forrest- > > Is it possible to block emails with attachments? If it is for members only, then I (as the list manager) will have to approve each new person. Do we want it to be for members only?
